Why Keep Trying?
Paul had the kind of religious résumé that should have given him every reason for confidence. But after encountering Christ, he counted all of it as loss. His righteousness would not come from what he had accomplished, but through faith in Jesus.
That raises another question. If Jesus has done what we could never do for ourselves, why does Paul talk about straining forward and pressing on?
Philippians 3 shows us the difference between working to earn our place with God and pursuing Christ because we already belong to Him. We don’t press on so Jesus will make us His own. We press on because He already has.
