When Following God Gets Difficult

Only a short time after Israel watched God part the Red Sea, life in the wilderness became difficult and they began looking back at Egypt.

In Exodus 16, God responds to their grumbling by revealing His glory, providing what He promised, and giving instructions that test whether His people will trust Him enough to obey.

Knowing God, trusting God, and obeying God belong together. The question is not whether God will do whatever we want, but whether we know Him well enough to trust what He has said when following Him becomes difficult. The manna in the wilderness ultimately points us toward Jesus, the true Bread of Life.

In Exodus 14:19–31, God shows His people what kind of God He is. He stands between them and their old master, makes a way they could never make for themselves, and fights the battle they could never win.

Through Christ, God has done the same for us. We were helpless to save ourselves, but Jesus made the way for us to be reconciled to God and given a new life.

The old life is over. So why do we still live afraid? What would it look like to live according to who Christ has already made us?
